Bridal skin care expert Carola May, owner of Skin Studio in Grass Valley says that even long term skin damage can be corrected with the right skin regimen and enough time. She says it’s best to start clearing blemishes and reversing sun damage 6 months before wedding day. Acne, scars, sun damage can be greatly diminished through treatments like retinol creams, lasers, and skin lighteners- but these treatments take time. Start early and work with an experienced esthetician who can create a specialized skin care plan for you.

Depending on the your specific skin care needs, Carola often prescribes a regimen of monthly treatments like fruit acid peels, or microdermabrasion. Your esthetician can also prescribe take home moisturizers and treatments which are much more efficient than any over the counter beauty products.

Remember that diminishing years of skin damage in a safe and effective way can take time, but it’s well worth it! Not only can you take years off your complexion, but treatments with your esthetician are an indulgent and relaxing escape during the often stressful moments of wedding planning.

Even though we tend to think of December to February as the time that most couples get engaged, there are PLENTY of men ready to pop the big question all year long. For those of you searching for the perfect ring, Nicole Arbaugh from Stucki Jewelers and Engravers in Grass Valley, CA has simple tips for finding the perfect engagement ring:

Far after the cake has been eaten and flowers faded, your diamond ring will shine on; making it the most important and likely the largest investment in your wedding day. For many of us, gem quality is a bit of a mystery. The easiest way to begin understanding diamonds is to start with the four C’s: color, cut, clarity and carat.

Color – Gem quality diamonds can vary from colorless to light yellow or light brown. Colorless diamonds are the most rare and only American Gem Society (AGS) certified labs have a set of Master Diamonds to compare and rate diamond color.

Cut – Of all of the 4C’s, cut has the most pronounced effect on a diamond’s beauty. The more exact and symmetrical a cut, the more the light can reflect creating the “bling” people desire. Half of the value of the diamond is defined by the cut.

Clarity – Diamonds can have internal characteristics known as inclusions or external characteristics known as blemishes. Diamonds without inclusions or blemishes are rare, however, most characteristics should only be able to be seen under magnification. When grading clarity, a gemologist uses magnification and specific lighting to consider the effect these characteristics have on the diamond’s appearance and/or durability.

Carat – The diamond’s physical weight is measured in metric carats. One carat equals 1/5 gram and is divided into 100 points. Carat weight is the most objective of the 4C’s, as it involves no estimates, comparisons or judgments.

The “Fifth C” is Confidence. When you consider making this investment, shop with a jeweler you trust. Ask about credentials and certification and make sure all your questions are answered in an unrushed manner. This will help you know your jeweler is qualified to help you with the most specific details of your diamond purchase.

Stucki Jewelers is an AGS certified lab- one of only 51 accredited labs in California. Stop by anytime to speak with a certified gemologist!
